Who we are
Built by Marines. For the work after the uniform.
The Transition Post is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in Los Angeles in 2026 by Marine Corps veterans Martin Raul Carrillo and David Killion. We exist for the mile that begins after discharge — the work of leaving the uniform behind, finding work, finishing school, repairing relationships, and learning how to ask for help. The country makes a promise to every service member at enlistment; our job is to be there when the uniform comes off, when the parade ends, and when the rest of life begins.
We are run by veterans, for veterans and their families. Four programs — Career Forward, Family Pillar, Academic Support, and Mental Health Resources — work in concert because no real-life challenge stays in a single lane. Ninety cents of every dollar we receive goes directly to those programs. The remaining ten keeps the lights on so we can keep showing up. That is the entire structure. Nothing fancy. Just the work.

When a service member takes the oath, the country makes a promise back — that we will be there when the uniform comes off. Too often, that promise gets quiet. A veteran moves home and finds no one waiting at the gate. The paperwork gets long. The nights get longer. The Transition Post exists to make the silence smaller.
We do unglamorous work. We pay first month's rent. We sit in the VA waiting room when no one else will. We rewrite résumés at midnight, drive someone to a job interview at six the next morning, and call their kid's school when the family is two days from eviction. The dramatic stories make the news. The thousand small ones make a life.

The Transition Post wasn't drawn up in a boardroom. It was built one neighborhood, one deployment, one practice field at a time — long before it had a name.
Martin Raul Carrillo was born and raised in East Los Angeles, where family, neighborhood, and loyalty aren't slogans — they're survival. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2010 as MOS 3531 — Motor Transportation Operator — keeping convoys moving and Marines safe across every kind of terrain. From 2011 to 2012 he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, where the realities of combat and the weight of brotherhood stopped being abstractions and became the bedrock for everything that came after. In 2013 he cross-trained as MOS 3536 — Vehicle Recovery Operator — where the job description was simple: when something or someone is stuck, you go get them. After an honorable discharge in 2014, Martin returned home and, beginning in 2015, took up coaching high school baseball and football — mentoring young men from the same neighborhoods he grew up in. The Transition Post is what happens when East L.A., the Marine Corps, and the practice field stop being separate things and become one mission.

Connecting veterans to trauma-informed counseling, peer support groups, and crisis services. The hardest battles often come home with us — you don't fight them alone.
